Trout & Feather: November

Earlier this week, I shared my annual holiday fly fishing gift guide. Over at Trout & Feather, I decided to take things in a little bit of a different direction.

I don’t want to spoil the five delightful suggestions that I offer up in the article. Let’s just say that they include singing wall fish, garlic and cheese, and industrial-strength harnesses. Is your interest piqued?

This month I feature a few videos from Trout & Feather. One is an unboxing/review video where Tim takes a look at some fly tying tools. The other is a variation on a very, very popular nymph pattern. Both are worth taking the time to watch.

Watch the videos, and find a link to the article, below:

Head to “The Pursuit of Fish” on Trout & Feather to read my posts, including A Gift Guide for the “Hard to Shop For” Fly Fisher.

Tim Cammisa of Trout & Feather looks at the travel tool set from Stonfo. Along with talking through everything that is included, Time shares why he likes Stonfo tools and how he uses them. Especially if you are a newer fly tyer, there is a lot of value in leaning into others’ experience when it comes to the subtle nuances that separate one tool or type of tool from another.

Looking at the fly in the preview for this YouTube video, you’d never know everything that goes into the tie. Tim and guest tyer Kevin Compton tie this variation on the pheasant tail. As Kevin constructs the fly, he explains the reasons why he designed the fly and goes through some intricate techniques that allow the fly to be fished in the manner he desires. This video is a great example of how Trout & Feather not only teaches how to tie flies – it teaches you how to tie.
