The last article I published on other fly fishing podcasts was back in 2020. There was a time when these posts were some of the most popular content on the website. But that was during the COVID times. It was prior to the hordes of AI lists that you’ll find today. It was before there was a thing called the Casting Across Fly Fishing Podcast. It was a different world. But even though many things have changed (including my time behind a microphone), the benefit of listening to other anglers talk about the quarry and culture of fly fishing has remained constant.
Today I’m sharing four episodes from four fly fishing podcasts. There is a good chance that you’re already familiar with these high-quality shows. But in case you have always scrolled past or happened to miss a particular episode, this is a good chance to listen to something interesting.
The Wrong Fly in the Right Place – The Orvis Fly-Fishing Podcast
This is a classic fly fishing conversation: practical information peppered with anecdotes. Listen as Tom Rosenbauer talks to Tim Flagler about using flies that were designed for one purpose in a different context. Both men are experienced, well-traveled, and down to earth. This means that their “unorthodox” angling takes ought to be readily considered by both new and long-time fly fishers.
The Bonker Spey? – Anchored with April Vokey
In what anyone familiar with fly fishing social media should see as an example of intrepid open-minded ness, April Vokey interviews Michael Rebholz. Rebholz comes across as an online provocateur (even calling her out in the past) who incessantly posts about his self-styled innovative spey tactics. Vokey is gracious but straightforward in the way she engages and conducts herself.
Why Aren’t Young Fly Fishers Buying Bamboo? – The Fly Fishing Consultant
Rob Snowhite has the ability to pick out interesting aspects of fly fishing minutiae and reveal how relevant they are to the greater community. Here, he talks to rod builder Jerry Kustich about the generational drop-off in using bamboo. It is a great listen to hear anglers who are passionate about their craft and conscientious about what is happening around them.
Water Lines, Wilderness & a Life Connected by Water – The Sustainable Angler
As the Casting Across Fly Fishing Podcast does not feature interviews, I like steering my audience to other shows that do – especially when they feature anglers and authors I talk about on Casting Across. Here, Rick Crawford interviews Riverhorse Nakadate. I had a great conversation with Riverhorse that turned into some excellent content. But you didn’t get to listen to him directly. This is a great chance to do so.
