Driving. Folding laundry. Grocery shopping. Mowing the lawn. Waiting for the doctor. All of these monotonous intervals could very well be time for you to be alone with your thoughts. Or, you could tap on your smartphone and listen to something entertaining. And if it just so happens that you are into this whole fly fishing thing, there are plenty of options out there for you.
Why listen to a fly fishing podcast when the latest Taylor Swift song or riveting political talk is right there on the radio dial? For one, it can be the best kind of escapism. On one hand you could daydream about fly fishing, on the other hand you are potentially learning some valuable stuff in preparation for when you actually go fly fishing. Those mundane moments then become valuable as you fritter time away while simultaneously absorbing ideas and concepts.
There are many good fly fishing podcasts out there, each having some great episodes. At the bottom of the post there are links to the previous fly fishing podcast articles with more suggestions and my takes on every show listed.

2 Guys and a River – From Guided Float Trips to Fly Fishing Solo
The humility of Steve and Dave is so refreshing in today’s fly fishing culture. And it isn’t common to find the kind of helpful discussion that their attitude towards fly fishing (and themselves) brings to bear. For example, in this episode they focus a lot on asking questions. How will that help you catch more fish? Well, give this a listen because their advice regarding asking questions won’t just bring more fish to hand – it will make your fly fishing dollar go much, much further.
The DrakeCast – Crossroads: Social Media & Fly Fishing
If you don’t want to think about the impact of Instagram on fly fishing, I don’t blame you one bit. However, if you have an opinion somewhere on the “it is why I fish” to “it is ruining our rivers” spectrum, this podcast will give you some ammunition and some food for thought. A handful of guests are featured, and the multifaceted nature of the issue is given a pretty good treatment. Almost 20 shows in, and the DrakeCast is proving to be a fun, quick listen.
The Fly Fishing Consultant – Fly South | Nashville’s Premier Fly Fishing Shop
First things first: if you’re at all hungry, don’t listen to Rob’s podcast that immediately precedes this one. He discusses the Nashville food scene in mouth-watering detail. This particular episode is an excellent conversation with a fly shop that services a burgeoning angling spot. Nashville, and Fly South’s experience, has the quintessential southern fly fishing story. Some trout, but a lot of warmwater fish make up the quarry. Rob Snowhite does a great interview, and probes the ins and outs of what fishing around Tennessee entails. Including more hot chicken.
The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide Podcast – Mousing for Trout, with Joe Cermele
This summer I fished with mouse patterns a lot. I didn’t catch as many fish as I should have, because I was fishing with mice and not necessarily fishing mice the way that they should be fished. Tom Rosenbauer has a conversation with a mouse fishing expert, and you’ll appreciate how there is more to targeting big fish with topwater patterns than just chucking and retrieving.

I’m going to embarrass myself here. I usually hang out on Facebook when I’m not seriously occupied. I don’t have a lot of patience for long podcasts, but I’m going to give it a try just because I’m tired of all the political crap I’ve been shoveled.
I encourage you to do so. Start with 2 Guys – they’re quick and practical. And apolitical!
