Fallen In, by Blue Lines

Taking a spill and filling up your waders is a universal experience that most of us have partaken in at one point or another. Maybe it is some sick, slapstick part of my sense of humor, but I enjoy reading and hearing about others’ dunkings.  Which is okay, as I’ve shared one of my more memorable baptisms before. Sam at Blue Lines has a great account of his falling in. Humor, friendship, and a tiny bit of danger make this a great read. These guys have a cool site with a slick layout and great photography. Check it out and keep up with what they are doing.

Fiberglass Fly Rods,  20th Anniversary & Fiberglass Manifesto

The last few years have seen fiberglass fly rods surge back to being major players in the industry. That being said, Fiberglass Fly Rods was written 20 years ago to celebrate this “sub-niche” in an already niche industry. I asked Cameron Mortenson, the author of the anniversary edition’s forward and the proprietor of The Fiberglass Manifesto, what the significance of this book is:

“Fiberglass fly rods is very much a niche within fly fishing and this book is required reading for anyone just starting to poke around and see what this all about and still important for someone who already considered themselves as a ‘Glass Geek’.  The book explores the history, the makers and companies from past to present, and really gives a good reference point to learn from.”

The link above sends you to Mortenson’s endorsement of the book. You can purchase a copy here.

The Fly Shack’s Twitter Account

You don’t necessarily have to travel to Gloversville, New York,  to hear the goings-on in the fly fishing world from The Fly Shack. This shop,  at the southern edge of the Adirondacks, has a great selection of gear for the fly fisher. Their hooks in particular have a strong fanbase, as they are known for being sharp, durable, and very affordable. From time to time, The Fly Shack will use their Twitter account to publicize products and sales. More often than not, you’ll see retweets of diverse articles, videos, and blog posts from across the fly fishing community. They feature the big names as well as up-and-comers. Follow them for quality, consistent (but not at all overwhelming or obnoxious) content.
