Can there be too many fly fishing podcasts?
Probably. But I’d put that threshold right around the same place as “too many riverside conversations” or “too many fly shop shooting the breeze sessions.”
For that reason I’ve been recording and publishing the Casting Across Fly Fishing Podcast for the past few months. At the same time, I haven’t slowed down in my listening to other fly fishing podcasts. Similarly, I’m not going to slow down in my recommending other fly fishing podcasts to you.
Below I’ve listed five established podcasts, pointing out one specific episode in each that I think is worth your time. I’ve also added another, brand-spanking new podcast in the outdoors genre. This is one I’m sure you’ll want to subscribe to.
Read why I think you should listen, and click on the title to head to the episode and show page, below:
2 Guys and a River – What Fly Fishing Does for Our Day Job
Steve and Dave make fly fishing relatable. Most anglers think more about making that one big purchase a year or fitting a trip into a busy schedule than the intricacies of nypmh rigs. Hopefully, most anglers (including you) are asking the question of how fly fishing does something for their day job. Steve and I are in the same field, so in this episode the guys were really speaking my language.
Anchored with April Vokey – Roland Martin: A Bassmaster
Like many fly fishers, I started off with conventional tackle. I learned from library books and Saturday morning fishing TV. Quickly, I realized that one of the heads on the Mt. Rushmore of bass fishing is Roland Martin. In this episode, April Vokey “crosses the aisle” into the world of bass tournaments and big money fishing. Whether you’ve watched Martin or not, this is a great look at the diversity of the fishing world.
The DrakeCast – Beyond the Fish: Fires & Hurricanes
In what was supposed to be the penultimate episode of the DrakeCast, a really important perspective was explored. How to fisheries weather natural disasters? More significantly, how do communities weather natural disasters? The DrakeCast always finds a fascinating juxtaposition between culture, fly fishing, and the unique and weird fly fishing culture.
Fly Fishing Consultant Podcast – The Mayfly Project
If you’re feeling cynical about fly fishing, give this podcast a listen. Rob Snowhite discusses The Mayfly Project founder Jess Westbrook. This non-profit uses fly fishing to build relationships with foster children. And it isn’t just about creating a fun distraction. The Mayfly Project empowers these children and facilitates their adoption. It is an amazing program and a great story.
The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide Podcast – Your FAQ’s Answered, with Jeremy Binn of Orvis Tech Support
Tom Rosenbauer is one of the foremost figures in fly fishing today. He’s also one of the first people to refer curious and inquisitive anglers to other experts. Humility is always refreshing. He constantly points those who call and email him to local fly shops, and has made a habit of passing product questions off to Orvis specialists. In this episode, he rolls through a number of common questions with a member of the team who has the answers.
Hank Patterson’s Outdoor MisAdventures
Do I even need to convince you to check this show out? The character of Hank Patterson is the high point of fly fishing satire. Never mean but brutally honest, I expect this caricature of anglers to entertain along the same lines of all other Trout Jouster media.

What are your favorite fly fishing podcasts? Let me know below:
Tailer Trash is a great one and needs to make the list! A random smattering of central florida skiff skum talking about the intracracies of lagoon muck, which liquor store to go to in colordado, and something called a carl.
You just earned it a listen!
…a carl, eh…
Legend holds that they are huge
Tailers Trash Fly Fishing podcast. Duh.
Now I’ll listen two at least two episodes!
Tailer Trash Fly Fishing is the best hands down.
Now I’m committed to 3 episodes. That means I’m at least 6 hours in…
Make it 4 episodes man, and since you recommended an episode I will as well.
Episode 21 is pretty good.
Episode 10 discusses Mrs. Vokeys new bathroom
Episode 7.1 gives you some history on Carl
Episode 7 has some more genius Carl quotes and even names a fly!
Excellent. I’m on it.
Now if I listen at 1.5X speed, I could drive to Philadelphia in the time it takes to listen to them all…
I don’t recommend listening to any podcast at 1.5x or higher speed. Tailer Trash included.
I do not recommend listing to podcasts at 1.5x or higher speeds. Especially the Tailer Trash podcast.
Dean, I get hopped up on nonfat lattes and get impatient with 1.5X.
Trailer Trash Fly Fishing
Thanks, Jon. But Ben established a precedent in making this easier for me…
Check out Tailer Trash Fly Fishing podcast. It’s just a great group of guys sitting around the table talking about fly fishin, skiffs, conservation, beer, cooking meat on theTraeger grill, and April Vokey’s 53 foot bathroom.
I have a lot to learn about virtually all of those things.
Learn about grape jelly and sticking pigs, trailer trash is what’s up
