Podcast Ep. 11: A Fly Fisher’s First Trip Out West

Growing up fly fishing the east, the trout and waters of the west always felt mythical.

In this episode I talk about my first trip to Colorado, which is probably not unlike a lot of people’s first trip out west. There is so much that is different. At the same time, most of the important stuff is the same. The trout are trout and the flies are flies.

We might go fish the same place over and over again, but that first time is always new and amazing.

My first trip West, 40yrs. ago, I wasn’t a fisherman then. But my eyes couldn’t open wide enough to capture all the western landscape! And there were people in the rivers fly fishing on that trip. That grabbed my curiosity. Fast forward 20 years, living in Virginia, too, I decided to find out about this fishing style. Fast forward to the present, I make bamboo fly rods now as a hobby, my wife and I will retire this year and move to our newly purchased retirement home in Colorado. I plan on spending a lot of time in South Park among other places. Mathew you should check out South Park, too.
