And while I’d be writing something, somewhere if I weren’t creating content for Casting Across, I’ve been doing this for the past eight years because you are reading this.
Over 1,250 posts and I don’t have plans on stopping anytime soon. In fact, I have designs on what might be coming up in the near future on Casting Across. Interested? I’ll share what I’m thinking below.
But first, I want to ask something: Could you pass the site or the podcast along to a fly fishing friend? I don’t pay for marketing or spend time trying to optimize my search engine ranking. Casting Across relies on word of mouth, social media shares, and the like.
And here’s what you, and anyone you refer to Casting Across, can expect:
Celebrating the Fly Shops
Eight years ago, fly shops spurred on the creation of Casting Across. As the cultural hub and outfitter of anglers, I’ve always appreciated shops and the role they play in fly fishing. Some of my favorite articles on the site have to do with these stores that are often much more than retailers.
With the creation of the Fly Shop Box, I’ve taken a modest step to celebrate and promote the patronization of brick and mortar stores. Simply cataloging all the options for you is, in my opinion, a way to push people to support and engage in the fly fishing community.
Emphasizing the Education
If there is one thing that I’ve learned over 20 years of marriage, it is to listen to my intuitive and observant wife. While she’s not necessarily reading every word that appears on here (she hears me enough, you know?), she pays attention to the contours of Casting Across. Something she’s said for years: the beginner articles are good.
My hesitance has come from the fact that there are so many good resources out there for beginners and those looking to diversify their fly fishing skills. But there is certainly something to be said for adding another one – and doing it in my voice. I do plan on continuing to add more introductory content, but ensuring that it is a compelling and entertaining read.
Pushing the Envelope
I’m not talking about fly fishing “hot takes.” And I’m not going to be commenting on partisan politics.
But there are some important things that are worth considering that have some downstream implications that include, among other items, fly fishing.
So I’ll be writing about things that matter, and why they matter to you.
