Orvis –  Photo Essay: The Brown Trout of the Spanish Pyrenees

They’re your brown trout… but different.  Phil Monahan has a great slideshow of Spanish trout in this fun post. I know that it is fun to see a fish with an atypical coloration or patterning. Here, there are a lot of them. These brown trout are demonstrative of the variations we see within the same species, and the myriad of variables that cause such differences.

Trident Fly Fishing – Lamson Center Axis Fly Rod Review

I love the concept of the Lamson Center Axis. I’m currently working on a piece that explores the reason why fly fishers should be adopters of out of the box innovations. Here, you can watch the excellent Trident team’s review of the rod/reel system. I think you’ll be surprised with the specific feedback offered, as well as some of their broader observations and expectations.

Hatch Magazine  – The original endangered species—where are they now?

The  Endangered Species Act of 1973 was and is a good thing. Fundamentally, there are political angles to such an act. Sadly, politics from both sides of the aisle often muddle something that everyone should get behind. This piece from Hatch is an interesting, quick read. It spotlights the salmonids from the original listing, but should serve as a springboard for you to check out what has been going on with all the “original” endangered species.
