Last Cast of the Week, 8/10/2018

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from:

  • The Silent Pursuit
  • The New York Times Magazine – Urban Fly Fishing
  • The Journal of the American Medical Association – Snapchat Dysmorphia

The Silent Pursuit

If you want to read some good, unpretentious, everyday fly fishing thoughts, head over to The Silent Pursuit. Along with rekindling his passion for trout, Steven Smith renewed his blog. Something I’ve always appreciated about Steven is his photography, which is front and center on his website and in his articles. Go over to The Silent Pursuit, follow him on social media, and enjoy!

Urban Fly Fishing – The New York Times Magazine

I am a sucker for fly fishing writing in the mainstream. In many ways, The New York Times Magazine is about as mainstream as it gets. This article by James Pogue is interesting because it isn’t about an idyllic Montana outing or some adventure in the Caribbean. He writes about, and probably introduces a wider audience to, urban fly fishing.

Snapchat Dysmorphia –  Journal of the American Medical Association

How in the world does a medical journal article relate to fly fishing? Well, have you noticed what medium has been moving the needle of the fly fishing industry more than anything else these days? Social media and its version of reality has had a profound impact on our culture. While the implications of this piece are much more significant than “grip and grins,” the applications in fly fishing are worth thinking about.
