Most Fridays on Casting Across are devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.
Today, I’m sharing items from Wayward Angler, RepYourWater, & The Unripe Fig.

Wayward Angler – Brook Trout Rod
If you’re on “fly fishing social media,” you’re inevitably seeing some pretty eye-catching custom fly rods. Wraps used to be the extent of creativity, but new blanks and handles expand the horizons that rod builders can explore. Steve Christopherson, of Wayward Angler Fly Fishing, has put together a really great looking brook trout rod. The colors are reminiscent of the little char, and the specs make the rod perfect for pursuing these fish in mountain streams. This is just one of the many beautiful rods that Steve has built. Follow him on social media to see what he’s creating, and get a hold of him if you’re interested in commissioning a rod.
“I like those hats… but I’m not a 20-year old skater.” I’ve heard and read that sentiment about so many of the hats that popular fly fishing apparel companies are putting out these days. I even expressed something to that effect when I talked to the RepYourWater folks in Somerset this past winter. “We’ve got some new designs coming out,” they said, “we promise!” Sure enough, RYW now offers a handful of fits that should satisfy every head shape and style preference. So if you passed them up before because of the “high profile” look, now is a great time to look at their extensive catalog again.
Of all the un-fly fishing content I’ve recommended on Casting Across, this might be the most “un-fly fishingest.” That doesn’t mean that I’m not into what Bethany does, or that you shouldn’t check her site out. She cuts fruits and vegetables. That is (basically) it. She discusses and demonstrates cutting fruits and vegetables. As a lover of minutiae, this is right up my alley. Additionally, she’ll highlight a little tip that will make a task that you normally do just that much easier. It is creative. It is fun. It is worth browsing around and sharing with the person in your life that cuts, and eats, fruits and vegetables.
