Most Fridays on Casting Across are devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.
Today, I’m sharing items from Flymen Fishing Company, Vedavoo / Water Master, & the most-viewed fly fishing video on YouTube!

Flymen Fishing Company – Bass Bug 2.0 Popper vs. Hammer (Video)
I love fishing poppers. The whole experience is one of my favorite parts of summer warm water fly fishing. But once a fly has hit a few rocks, been chewed on by a few fish, the experience quickly dwindles. Traditional coated, cork poppers are great for a while, then they stop floating. Once they stop floating, they stop popping. Here, the new Flymen bodies are put to a test that truly illustrates how durable a popper should be. Watch the video and see for yourself.
Vedavoo – Saving Water Master Raft Vinyl Remnants from Landfill (Video)
Conservation: everyone in the industry talks about it. And rightly so. But how many companies are thinking outside the box and going over and above to actually make a real impact on the environment? Massachusetts-based Vedavoo has teamed up with Montana-based Water Master to eliminate manufacturing waste by 90%. That is a real impact. Vedavoo is hand-building packs from the material Water Master uses to custom build their boats. Check out what the end result looks like.
The most-viewed fly fishing video on YouTube!
Maybe I’m late to the party. But apparently this five minute clip of catching rainbows has been viewed over six million times. Six million. Orvis’ top video has just over one million views. The Afro Ninja video has 17 million views… and that guy is a cultural phenomenon. Regardless, these guys are fishing in some beautiful water and landing some big fish. But six million views? Leave a comment if you know more of the story!
