Most Fridays on Casting Across are devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.
Today, I’m sharing items from Cheeky/AFFTA, Trident Fly Fishing, & North Arkansas Fly Fishers.

Cheeky/AFFTA – Striped Bass Conservation
If the idea of fishing tournaments ruffles your feathers, Cheeky’s Schoolie Tournament on Cape Cod might change your mind. Through the largest catch and release fly fishing tournament in the world, Cheeky has been promoting the sport, the habitat, and the stripers for 7 years in a row. This year, they are partnering with the American Fly Fishing Trade Association to up the conservation ante. Up to a total of $3,000, each group will donate one dollar for every inch of striped bass caught during the event. Check out the press release, and stay tuned to watch the Schoolie Tournament unfold.
Trident Fly Fishing – Trade In Program
Recently I took a look at the growing pile of fly rods in my closet. One in particular just didn’t fit. I don’t need it. So I emailed Trident Fly Fishing and asked them if they wanted it. This wasn’t some grand, presumptuous move on my part. They welcome this kind of inquiry. Through their Trade-In program, they will make an offer on your clean and working fly fishing equipment. Within a few days you’ll have a quote and instructions on how to proceed. Once they receive and inspect your gear, you’ll get store credit that is as good as cash. Your local shop might have a consignment program that you use. If not, definitely email Trident and see what they can do with your “extra” gear.
North Arkansas Fly Fishers – Sowbug Roundup
Arkansas holds a special place in my angling heart. The very first trout I ever became acquainted with was below the dam on the Little Red River. Fly fishing expos are also one of my favorite things. This weekend, the North Arkansas Fly Fishers’ Sowbug Roundup combines the two. The schedule features an impressive lineup of fly tiers, casting instructors, and presenters. The group is representative of the region, but includes some names from other locales as well. Attendance will enrich your angling experience, but will also support an organization that promotes conservation and education.
