Last Cast of the Week, 8/26/2016

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from  The National Park Service, Vedavoo, and Rouse Fly Fishing.

If you’d like to be featured in the Last Cast of the Week, or have seen something that others might be interested in, use my contact form or shoot me an email (matthew[at]castingacross[dot]com).

The National Park Service Centennial

Regardless of your feelings about this country, our government, and US history, the true blessing of the National Parks is undeniable. A common sentiment of international visitors to the States is a certain jealousy for the amount of places that “belong” to the people. Even with all the rules and regulations on these places, we still have it very good. 8/25 was the exact centennial of the NPS, but take an opportunity to read about the parks, watch Ken Burns’ documentary, or head out and spend some time in your parks.

Vedavoo – new gear

There is no such thing as a perfect fly fishing sling pack, vest, or backpack. Even guys that make the stuff are constantly tinkering and improving their products. My philosophy has become this:  knowing there are inherent limitations to gear, I don’t want them  to arise from a) superfluous features or b) poor materials/workmanship.  Vedavoo gear  most definitely can never be accused of transgressing either of those criteria. If you haven’t seen this stuff, it is a must. Click now. If you know about the packs and bags, head over to the refreshed website to check out the  Mammoth, the Seam, and some other great new gear.

Rouse Fly Fishing – Instagram

Two for the price of one!  Jamie and Kati Rouse both have Instagram  accounts that feature their guide service, the Little Red River, and their fly fishing lives. If you’ve never taken the time to really check out the amazing tailwater fisheries of Arkansas, these accounts will make you want to investigate more.  They have great content, and are definitely worth  the follow.
