Last Cast of the Week, 7/28/2017

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from StateCollege.com, The Mayfly Project, & Mousetrap Mondays.

Joe Humphreys Student Angling Fund – StateCollege.com

If you’re a Mid Atlantic fly fisher, you are certainly aware of the angling heritage at Penn State. George Harvey’s  passion for education and fly fishing is still thriving nearly 80 years later. Joe Humphreys is a key reason for that longevity. He has been an instrumental part of the program since the 1950’s. This piece talks about the past and future of the program, including steps to ensure that students will have what they need to fish for years to come.

The Mayfly Project – Instagram

“The river is a place where I can immerse myself in God’s creation and forget about everything but mending.” That is  a quote from The Mayfly Project’s founder, Jess Westbrook. Seeking to mentor foster children through the activity and relationships of fly fishing, this program is linking anglers with young people in some amazing ways. Their Instagram account has been putting out some great photos as of late, sharing their work with the greater community.

Mousetrap Mondays – YouTube Videos

If you’re squeamish, you might not like this. But if you understand that rodents are pests, are into weird minutiae, and don’t mind seeing a few  mice die in night vision – subscribe to  Shawn Woods’ channel. Kind of like the mindset required to cull certain fish is misunderstood, people might balk at what Woods is doing. But they are mice. You can really waste an hour watching these… so be careful.
