Last Cast of the Week, 3/2/2018

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from Cheeky, Rep Your Water, and The Fly Fishing Show.

Cheeky – Small Water Fly Reels

There are plenty of reasons to take advantage of  a quality disc drag when fishing for trout. Ideally, you’ll want a reel that can handle big fish as well as abuse.  A few more dollars for something that will perform well under all circumstances just makes sense. That is where offerings from a company like Cheeky shine. Running from $129 to $325, the trout angler has some great options for their 2 through 4-weights. If you want to make a little investment, you’ll have a reel that can put up with water, rocks, and the biggest of trout.

Rep Your Water – Unstructured Hats

Be honest. If you are of a certain age you’ve looked at the amazing, creative hats from Rep Your Water and thought: “those are so cool… but I’m too old.” Well, today is your day. While the initial three offerings in the new unstructured lineup hardly hold a candle to the hundreds of options in their original series, they provide something for a wider audience. And knowing Rep Your Water, if these sell they’ll inevitably add more designs in the near future.

The Fly Fishing Show – Lancaster, PA

This weekend marks the final stop on The Fly Fishing Show’s nationwide tour. Being early March, the non-angling events wind down while the actual fishing picks up. That being said, the Lancaster Show is a good one to go to. If you are in the Mid-Atlantic, you’ll get a chance to see exhibitors, vendors, and tyers from the region and beyond. A lot of these folks have been riding the circuit for the better part of the winter, so be sure to stop in if you can!

  1. Some good picks this week Matthew. Rep Your Water is a local (to me) company that I just love. Good folks there and I love their products. And of course The Fly Fishing Show is a must go to every year. For Denverites it’s the perfect way to start the new year.
