Last Cast of the Week, 12/1/2017

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from  In the Riffle/OPST, Between Two Banks, & Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Expo.

If you’d like to be featured in the Last Cast of the Week, or have seen something that others might be interested in, use my  contact form  or shoot me an email (matthew[at]castingacross[dot]com). Also, be sure to  subscribe to Casting Across to never miss a post.

In the Riffle – OPST

The recent influence that spey tactics and gear have had overall in the fly fishing industry has been profound. Although there are many similarities with traditional fly casting and equipment, the differences (and the terminology) are different enough to cause some confusion. This video, which demonstrates how to set up the different OPST skagit components, serves as an excellent primer on “what goes where.” There are plenty of other resources on their website and the In the Riffle YouTube channel, but I’ve found this to be a very helpful tool when it comes to visualizing skagit  gear.

Between Two  Banks

Fly fishing websites run the gamut when it comes to content. For example, I write – that is about it. I am particularly impressed with folks that bring something outside of my skill set.  At Between Two Banks, you’re going to get writing, but you will also see gorgeous photography and excellent craftsmanship. Jacob and Jillian do a lot, but what makes their site worth browsing around for an extended period are their shots of fish, custom rod socks, and handmade bamboo rods.

Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Expo

Outdoor expo season  is upon us! Over the next five months, hunters and anglers will congregate indoors to dream of better weather. In Western North Carolina,  there is seasonal change… but the fishing is still decent in December! Regardless, this weekend is a great time from a fly fishing show.  This show has it all: vendors, speakers, fly tying, food, and more. If you’re anywhere close to  beautiful Asheville, consider making this the center of your weekend plans.
