Last Cast of the Week, 7/29/2016

Most Fridays on Casting Across are  devoted to other people’s contributions in the fly fishing community. Articles, pictures, social media accounts, videos, podcasts, products, and more will be featured on The Last Cast of the Week.

Today, I’m sharing items from Tacky Fly Fishing, TU Teen Summit, and Trident Fly Fishing.

If you’d like to be featured in the Last Cast of the Week, or have seen something that others might be interested in, use my contact form or shoot me an email (matthew[at]castingacross[dot]com).

Tacky Fly Fishing – Tacky Tuesdays

If you haven’t heard of Tacky and the way they have changed the fly box game, you’ve been living under a rock… and one that isn’t in or near a stream. The slotted silicone sheets are essentially indestructible, grip flies tightly, and generally function in a superior manner to foam. All that to say, you should be following Tacky on Facebook. Every Tuesday, they run a little “contest” where they solicit feedback. It might be a picture of a fish, a favorite Tacky box, or something of that sort. You see some interesting entries, and later in the week a winner is chosen. Not a bad deal!

Trout Unlimited – Teen Summit

The Trout Unlimited Teen Summit is something that should be talked about a lot more in conservation and fly fishing circles. This week is  literally the pinnacle activity for young people looking to get more involved in this sport and the stewardship of the resources. In this blog post on the TU website, one young man recounts a special moment for he and his peers from the week. Want more information on the Teen Summit? Check out this article and interview from earlier in the year.

Trident Fly Fishing – YouTube

At the juxtaposition of gear talk and internet videos, a strong case could be made for the supremacy of Trident Fly Fishing. The Maine-based company is at the forefront of online fly fishing retail, particularly when it comes to fly rods. Their videos are informative and helpful, and they don’t shy away from comparing rods to each other. This kind of thing is so important for someone doing preliminary research into which rod might be their next purchase. Thousands view their videos already, and you should take some time and browse through as well.
