Fly Fishing Podcasts Worth Listening To, part IX

Fly fishing can define an experience, a personality, an event, a place.

Listening to the voices of those who see such things through the lens of fly fishing can be captivating. If you fish, you’re hearing something in your own language. Hearing them can make you think, push you to do something, or just pass the time – but regardless, you’ll get it.

Today I’ve picked four podcasts that I’ve enjoyed. Moreover, I’ve picked four episodes that are really about the aforementioned details. You’ll hear conversations and interviews that aren’t just about fly fishing. They are about  an experience, a personality, an event, and a place.

Here are four podcast episodes that I think are worth listening to:

2 Guys & A River – Diners, Dives, and 2 Hungry Fly Fishers

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Steve and Dave are the voice of the everyman angler. Case in point? Sometimes the food is going to overshadow the fishing. They get that. This episode doesn’t make you want to go out to eat – it makes you want to go fishing so that you can stop fishing to go out to eat. We all know what it feels like to sit down in a comfy booth after a long day on the water. Divine.

Anchored with April Vokey – Finding Joe Brooks

A good interview acts as a springboard. In April Vokey’s discussion with Joe Brooks (not the Joe Brooks, mind you), you get a lot of information on the fabled angler. But it it a great mix of key bits and teases that ought to propel you to watch the documentary Finding Joe Brooks. As always, April is a compelling host who balances personal excitement with what is truly journalism.

The DrakeCast –  Dancing with Death on the Bighorn

Switching up formats every once is a gamble. Honestly, I was skeptical when I heard that an episode of the DrakeCast was going to be “just” a reading of a story that appeared in the Drake. After only hearing a few minutes of Dave Zoby recall a fateful day in Montana, I was riveted. I  don’t usually sit in my driveway listening to the end of a podcast, but this did it for me.

The Fly Fishing Consultant Podcast – Fly Fishing Cape Cod 101

I appreciate how Rob Snowhite straddles the line between guide and angler, industry insider and fly fishing enthusiast. Sitting down with Anthony Lombardo  of Bear’s Den Fly Fishing Company, Rob gets the scoop on the when, where, and how of fishing Massachusetts Cape Cod. The Cape is such a hot tourist destination in general, and east coast anglers really ought to be familiar with the diverse and accessible fisheries it offers.
